"Chega de Saudade" │ BOSSA NOVA │ History and Stories │ Ruy Castro

Coinciding with the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the birth of Bossa Nova , Turner Publishing House located in the city of Madrid │ Spain, has published in Spanish the book Bossa Nova │ The story and the stories .

The work is a careful translation into Spanish of the original volume " Chega de Saudade " written in Portuguese by Brazilian writer Ruy Castro in 1990.

This book faithfully reconstructs all the exciting bohemian and cultural life of Rio de Janeiro during the times and era of Bossa Nova. Its pages faithfully describe that Rio de Janeiro that no longer exists...

In addition to experiencing those golden decades in first person, Ruy Castro also heard the point of view of dozens of protagonists: Singers, composers, musicians, artists and their corresponding family members, friends and enemies.

The final result is a great story made up of different stories of experiences. It is a pleasant story that reads like a novel, full of passions and betrayals, loves and heartbreaks, curious, funny and/or tragic situations.

Its main protagonists are João Gilberto , Antônio Carlos Jobim , Vinícius de Moraes , and the extensive legion of young composers and performers, such as Nara Leão , Carlos Lyra , Roberto Menescal , Ronaldo Bôscoli , etc., who were seduced by the charm of that modern " new wave", they created a new, transgressive, different and sophisticated music, which, born in the southern area of Rio de Janeiro, proudly left Brazil to seduce and conquer the rest of the musical world.

Ruy Castro (1948) is a renowned writer and journalist with extensive experience as a columnist in the press of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and São Paulo (SP).

The work is considered a significant and fundamental piece for the preservation and documented dissemination of Bossa Nova.

The edition of " Chega de Saudade " has had more than twenty reprints in Brazil, in addition to editions in Japan, the United States, Germany, Italy, and now Spain.

Ruy Castro is also the author of an entire collection of thematic books on the city of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), historical novels, as well as the editor of various biographies of artists and/or relevant figures in Brazil.

The publication of the book " Bossa Nova " is not the typical and timely literal and/or automatic linguistic translation of the original work " Chega de Saudade " (Enough of Nostalgia) specifically commissioned from a professional translator.

But on the contrary, it is a delicate translation with a literary character. Behind the real meaning, equivalence and grammatical sense of each word or phrase, is the knowledge and affection of the person who loves this music and its related stories.

The original by Ruy Castro has been translated into Spanish by the writer José Antonio Montano .

Due to its great historical-musical interest, BOSSA NOVA CLUBE recommends reading the book " Bossa Nova " to all fans (Desafinad@s) and/or passionate about this music.
